William Frederick Pate, known professionally as William Pitt, was an American
singer born in the United States. Initially working as a dressman in his home
country, Pitt's music career began to take shape in the mid-1980s when he moved
to Paris. There, he was discovered by French music producer Pascal
Pillet-Desjardins, who signed him to a record label. His breakthrough came with
the single "City Lights", which became a hit in France and later reached Number
20 charts in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland upon its release in spring 1987.
