When Eastern Europe awoke from the retreat of the Soviet glacis in 1989,
everything had to be rebuilt. For forty years, official Communist culture had
tried to eradicate the roots of folk traditions in the countries subjected to
its dictates. Warsaw Village Band was born in Poland in March 1997, with the
dual aim of rehabilitating Polish folklore and bringing it up to date. This they
