Victor Marlborough Silvester, born on February 25, 1900 in Wembley, Middlesex,
England, was a dancer, writer, musician, and bandleader. He began his career as
a dancer, winning the first World Ballroom Dancing Championship in 1922 with
Phyllis Clarke. After marrying Dorothy Newton shortly thereafter, Silvester
became a founding member of the Ballroom Committee of the Imperial Society of
Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and published Modern Ballroom Dancing in 1927, which
became a best-seller. In 1935, recognizing a lack of suitable dance records, he
