Ulver, a Norwegian experimental electronica band, was founded in 1993 in Oslo by
vocalist Kristoffer Rygg. Their early works, such as debut album Bergtatt: Et
Eeventyr i 5 Capitler, were categorized as folklore-influenced black metal. The
band's initial breakthrough came with the release of their first demo cassette,
Vargnatt, in November 1993. Ulver signed with Century Media for their third
album, The Mardrigal of Night, issued in February 1997, marking their
