Theodor Karl Mackeben, known as Theo Mackeben, and born on January 5, 1897, in
Preußisch Stargard, West Prussia, Germany, was a pianist, conductor, and
composer. He studied music at the Cologne Academy of Music and in Warsaw from
1916 to 1920. After performing as a concert pianist, Mackeben moved to Berlin,
where he played piano at various venues. His breakthrough came when he served as
