Theo Adam
Theo Siegfried Adam, born August 1, 1926, in Dresden, Germany, was a German
bass-baritone and opera director. After singing in the Dresdner Kreuzchor from
1937 to 1944 and serving in the Wehrmacht, he completed private vocal training
with Rudolf Dittrich and joined the Staatsoper Dresden in 1949, debuting as one
of the Jesuits in Boris Godunov and as the Eremit in Der Freischütz. He debuted
at the Bayreuth Festival in 1952 and subsequently appeared at the Metropolitan
Opera and Vienna State Opera, performing major roles including Hans Sachs in Die
