The Stray Gators
The Stray Gators, an American rock group active from 1971 to 1973, were
assembled by Neil Young to support his solo recordings and tours. The core
lineup consisted of Jack Nitzsche on piano, Ben Keith on steel guitar,
Tim Drummond on bass, and Kenny Buttrey on drums, with Johnny Barbata replacing
Kenny Buttrey during the Time Fades Away tour. The band first appeared on
Neil Young’s 1972 album Harvest, playing on four tracks, and later on the 1973
album Time Fades Away. They also backed Young on the single "War Song" and
