The Rankin Family, a Canadian musical group from Mabou, Nova Scotia, was formed
by siblings Geraldine Rankin, Genevieve Rankin, David Rankin, John Morris
Rankin, and Raylene Rankin in the 1970s, later joined by Jimmy Rankin, Cookie
Rankin, and Heather Rankin; the group’s earliest recordings were independent
cassettes released in 1989 and 1990, featuring traditional jigs, reels and
original songs. Their breakthrough came with the 1992 re‑release of Fare Thee
