The Rainbows were an American vocal group from the 1950s. The ensemble achieved
recognition in 1955 with the release of the album Mary Lee. In 1956, Don Covay
became the leader of the group. During its career, the lineup occasionally
included singers Marvin Gaye and Billy Stewart, who performed as replacements
for absent members. The group's recordings are included in historical surveys of
the rhythm and blues and doo-wop genres.
