The Mākaha Sons, a Hawaiian traditional music group, was formed in 1976 on Oahu
as The Mākaha Sons of Niʻihau by Jerome Koko, Louis “Moon” Kauakahi, Skippy
Kamakawiwoʻole, Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, and Sam Gray. Their early career began as
an opening act at Uptown Yokos, and they released the album No Kristo in 1976,
followed by Kahea O Keale (1977) and Keala (1978). After Skippy Kamakawiwoʻole’s
death in 1982 and Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s solo departure, the group shortened
its name to the Mākaha Sons and released albums such as Hoʻoluana (1991), Ke
Alaula (1994), and Kuikawa (1996)....
