The Grease Band was a British rock group formed in 1968. Originally Joe Cocker's
backing ensemble, their name was inspired by an interview with jazz musician
Jimmy Smith. The group performed with Cocker at the Woodstock Festival (1969).
Following Cocker’s departure, their recordings included the albums The Grease
Band (1971) and Amazing Grease (1975). Their discography includes the archival
release On Air (1997). Members of the group included Chris Stainton, Bruce
Rowland, Alan Spenner, Neil Hubbard, and Henry McCullough. The Grease Band
became inactive in 1975.
