The Davis Sisters, an American gospel group founded in 1945 in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, consisted of Ruth ("Baby Sis") Davis and her sisters Thelma,
Audrey, Alfreda, and Edna. Imogene Greene joined the group in 1950, later
replaced by Jackie Verdell. Raised in the Fire-Baptized Holiness Church, the
Davis Sisters were among the first female groups to sing "hard gospel,"
achieving a big sound by positioning themselves several steps behind the
