Gordon Lee Beneke, known professionally as Tex Beneke, was born on February 12,
1914, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a jazz musician, tenor saxophonist, singer,
and big band leader who began playing the saxophone at age nine and started his
professional career with bandleader Ben Young in 1935. His breakthrough came
when he joined Glenn Miller's orchestra, contributing notable solos to "In The
Mood" and vocals to "Chattanooga Choo Choo". Beneke appeared in films like Sun
