Carl Stuart Hamblen was an American radio entertainer, singer-songwriter, and actor. He began working in entertainment in the 1920s and by 1931 was hosting the radio program Family Album in California, helping establish him as one of the early “singing cowboy” figures on radio. In 1934, he became the first artist signed to the American subsidiary of Decca Records. He composed the gospel hymn “It Is No Secret (What God Can Do)” and the hit song “This Ole House” (1954), which became internationally popular through recordings by Rosemary Clooney and later Shakin’ Stevens.
