Steve LaSpina
Steven Frank LaSpina, born March 24, 1954, in Wichita Falls, Texas, is an
American jazz bassist who performs on both upright and electric bass. After
attending the University of Illinois and DePaul University, LaSpina began
playing professionally in Chicago during the 1970s. His early career included
performances with Bunky Green, Larry Novak, and Joe Daley, as well as
collaborations with Chet Baker and Marian McPartland. He relocated to New York
City in 1979, performing with Mel Lewis's orchestra from 1978 to 1982.
