Darren Watson is a singer‑songwriter and guitarist who first performed in bars
and clubs during high school before forming Chicago Smoke Shop in 1985. The band
released the 1990 album So Glad and toured with Robert Cray and The Fabulous
Thunderbirds, dropping the Chicago prefix by 1990. Watson’s first solo album,
King Size, was released in 2002 and nominated for Best Roots Album at the 2003
New Zealand Music Awards, and continued with Saint Hilda’s Faithless Boy (2010),
