Smack was a Finnish rock band formed in 1982 at Lepakko, a self-managed social
center and music venue in Helsinki, Finland. The original lineup included
vocalist Claude Peltola, bassist Cheri Martin, guitarists Manchuria and Kartsa
Marjanen, and drummer Juki Marjala. In late 1983, they signed with the Cityboy
label and released their debut single "Criminal" (1984). Their first album Smack
On You (1984) was released in September. In mid-1986, they achieved chart
success with a cover of "Paint It Black" (1986), reaching number 8 on the
