Sleep, an American stoner/doom metal band from San Jose, California, was formed
by guitarist Matt Pike and bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros in June 1990. The band
evolved from Asbestosdeath, which included drummer Chris Hakius and guitarist
Tom Choi. After releasing two singles as Asbestosdeath, the band recruited
Justin Marler on drums and changed their name to Sleep. Their debut album Volume
One was released in 1991, followed by the EP Vol 2. The band's breakthrough came
