Self are an American pop rock ensemble from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, formed in
1993. The ensemble is led by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Matt Mahaffey
and included guitarist Mike Mahaffey, keyboardist Chris James, bassist Mac
Burrus, and drummer Jason Rawlings. Their recording career began with the studio
recording Subliminal Plastic Motives (1995), which sold over 40,000 copies and
featured the tracks “Cannon” (1995) and “So Low” (1996). They released the
studio recording The Half-Baked Serenade (1997) before signing with DreamWorks
