Samuel Wesley
Samuel Wesley was an English organist and composer from Bristol, born on
February 24, 1766. He reached professional recognition as a child prodigy who
mastered the violin, harpsichord, and organ and was nicknamed “the English
Mozart” by critics. By eight years of age, he had composed the oratorio Ruth.
Wesley reached wider visibility for his prolific output, which included six
symphonies, five organ concertos, four violin concertos, and the Mass Missa de
