Richard Bently Boone was an American jazz trombonist and singer who was born on
February 24, 1930, in Little Rock, Arkansas, and died on February 8, 1999, in
Copenhagen, Denmark. Boone sang in a Baptist church choir at age five, played
trombone in his school band at twelve, and toured with Lucky Millinder at
sixteen before serving in the United States Army. Following his military
service, Boone spent several years in Germany and France, and later studied
music at Philander Smith College starting in 1953. In 1958, Boone moved to Los
