Reri Grist, born February 29, 1932, in New York City, was an American operatic
soprano. She studied at the High School of Music and Art and Queens College,
City University of New York. Grist's early career included roles on Broadway,
notably as Consuelo in Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, where she sang
"Somewhere" for the first time. Grist's operatic debut came in 1959 at the Santa
Fe Opera. Her international career took off with performances at the Royal Opera
