Ronald Bertram Aloysius Greaves III, known professionally as R.B. Greaves, was
born on November 28, 1943, in Georgetown, Guyana, and later moved to the United
States where he grew up on a Seminole Indian reservation. He began his music
career under the name Sonny Childe with his group the TNTs, performing in both
the Caribbean and the UK. Greaves' breakthrough came in 1969 with the release of
"Take a Letter Maria" under the name R.B. Greaves. Produced by Ahmet Ertegün,
