Pierre Strauch, born in 1958, is a French cellist, composer, and conductor. He
studied cello with Jean Deplace and won fourth prize at the Rostropovitch Cello
Competition in 1977. In 1978, Strauch joined Ensemble Intercontemporain, a
French chamber orchestra founded by Pierre Boulez. In 1994, he co-founded
Festival Atempo in Caracas, Venezuela, which featured contemporary music,
