Paula Morelenbaum was born Regina Paula Martins Morelenbaum on July 31, 1962, in
Rio de Janeiro. She was exposed to bossa nova from childhood through her father
and began her professional career in 1980 with the vocal ensemble Céu da boca.
Morelenbaum gained international recognition as a member of Antônio Carlos
Jobim’s Nova Banda from 1984 until 1994, performing alongside her husband,
cellist Jaques Morelenbaum. She released her self-titled debut solo album, Paula
Morelenbaum, in 1992, which won a Sharp Music Award Brazil in 1994. She later
