Francisco Galán Blanco, known professionally as Pacho Galán, born on October 4,
1906, in Soledad, Atlántico, Colombia, was a Colombian composer, arranger, and
bandleader of various traditional music forms. In the early 1930s, he relocated
to Barranquilla and joined the Departmental Band, later working with the
Atlántico Jazz Band and the Barranquilla Philharmonic. In 1940, he established
the Pacho Galán Orchestra. His breakthrough came in 1954 with the merecumbé song
“Cosita Linda”, also known as “Ay Cosita Linda”, which earned him the title “The
