Yoshihide Ōtomo, born Ōtomo Yoshihide on August 1, 1959, in Yokohama, Japan, is
a Japanese composer and guitarist. He began his musical journey by frequenting
jazz cafés during high school and forming his own band. After studying under
improvisational jazz guitarist Masayuki Takayanagi at university, Ōtomo released
his first album in 1987. His breakthrough came with the soundtrack for the Hong
Kong film The Day the Sun Turned Cold (1994), which gained international
