Osvaldo Farrés was a Cuban songwriter and composer born on January 13, 1902, in
Quemado de Güines. He relocated to Havana at age 25 and worked as an illustrator
before beginning a career in music. In 1937, he composed the track “Mis cinco
hijos (Pedro, Pablo, Chucho, Jacinto, José)”, which was performed by Miguelito
Valdés. His bolero “Acércate más” became recognized internationally in 1940 and
was adapted as “Come Closer to Me” for the film Easy to Wed (1946). Farrés
hosted the program El bar melódico de Osvaldo Farrés on radio and television.
