Opiate for the Masses was an American alternative metal group from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1999 by Ron Underwood on vocals, Elias Mallin on drums, Jim Kaufman on guitar and keyboards, and Dustin Lyon on guitar, the band's name was a play on Karl Marx's famous quote, "Religion is the opium of the people." The group released the EP Goodbye in 2002. In 2005, Opiate for the Masses signed with Warcon Enterprises and released the full-length album, The Spore.
