Norman Jay is a British DJ who was born as Norman Bernard Joseph in Acton,
London, in 1957. He is famous for co-founding the pirate radio station Kiss FM,
for coining the term “rare groove”, and for receiving an MBE for services to
music (2002). Joseph achieved early professional recognition in the early 1980s
performing at unlicensed warehouse parties before becoming a founding member of
Kiss FM in 1985. In 1990, he co-founded the record label Talkin' Loud alongside
