Andrés Perfecto Eleuterio Goldino Confesor Echevarría Callava, known
professionally as Niño Rivera, was born on April 18, 1919, in Pinar del Río,
Cuba. He began playing bongo at age five and later mastered the tres under
classical guitarist Guyún and arranger Félix Guerrero. In the 1940s, Rivera
became part of the filin movement and started working as a composer/arranger.
His composition "El jamaiquino", which he wrote in 1944, marked a significant
