Natividad Macho Álvarez, known professionally as Nati Mistral, was born in 1928
in Madrid, Spain. She began her career as a singer and actress after studying
music, canto, and declamation at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de
Madrid. In 1944, she won a radio contest singing "Roupa branca" in Portuguese,
which led to her first single release, "Cançao Saloia" / "Roupa branca" (1944)
for Columbia Records. Mistral's early film roles included María Fernanda, la
