Lois LaVerne Williamson, known professionally as Molly O'Day, was born on July
9, 1923, in Pike County, Kentucky. She began performing locally with her
brothers before applying for Lynn Davis and His Forty-Niners in 1940. After
marrying Davis, she adopted the stage name Molly O'Day. The band, renamed the
Cumberland Mountain Folks in 1945, gained popularity and released their first
recordings on December 16, 1946, for Columbia Records. Her recording career with
