Miriam Gauci, born on April 3, 1957 in Malta, is a Maltese operatic soprano. She
began her voice training in Malta and completed her studies at the Conservatorio
Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, Italy. In 1984, she made her professional debut in
Bologna performing Francis Poulenc's La voix humaine. Gauci quickly gained
recognition for her well-managed voice, which was suited to lyric Italian roles.
She debuted at La Scala in 1985 as Proserpina in Luigi Rossi’s Orfeo and
performed in major European opera houses including Vienna State Opera, Hamburg,
