Born in Haiti, French-speaking Canadian singer Mélanie Renaud has made a name
for herself in pop, R&B and musical comedy. Born in Bainet, Haiti, on September
9, 1981, she was adopted by a Quebec family at the age of eight months. After
debuting with the rap group Rainmen, the singer was noticed in 1998 at the
Festival de la chanson de Granby, where she reached the finals. She collaborated
as a backing singer with Éric Lapointe before launching her solo career in 2000
