Mela Tenenbaum was a Ukrainian violinist and violist born in Chernovtsy,
Ukraine, who studied at the Kyiv Conservatory and earned a master’s degree. She
began her career performing with the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra and the Kyiv
Philharmonic from 1979, becoming a soloist and concertmaster of the chamber
ensemble Perpetuum Mobile, and premiering works by Ukrainian and Russian
composers such as Dmitri Klebanov. In 1990 she emigrated to the United States,
where she served as concertmaster of the Philharmonia Virtuosi from 1993,
