Thomas Maxwell Davis, Jr., born January 14, 1916 in Independence, Kansas, was an
American rhythm and blues saxophonist, arranger, bandleader, and record
producer. In 1937, he moved to Los Angeles and played saxophone with the
Fletcher Henderson orchestra. By the mid-1940s, Davis became a regular session
musician for independent labels like Aladdin Records, recording with artists
such as Jay McShann and Jimmy Witherspoon. He arranged "K.C. Lovin'" (1952) for
