Albert Edmond Van Hecke, known professionally as Luc Barney, was born on July 25, 1916, in Roubaix, France. He was a French operetta singer and actor. He began his career initially performing at the Club des Cinq from 1946 to 1947, where he met Édith Piaf. Barney's breakthrough came with his role as Léopold in L’Auberge du Cheval-Blanc at the Théâtre du Châtelet in 1949. Notable recordings include those from 1954 and 1959, featuring collaborations with Colette Riedinger, Fernand Sardou, and Lysiane Rey, whom he married in 1953.
