Otis Verries Hicks, known as Lightnin' Slim, and born on March 13, 1913, in Good
Pine, Louisiana, was a blues musician. He started playing guitar at a young age
and by the late 1940s was performing in bars in Baton Rouge. One of his first
recordings, "Bad Luck", was released by Feature Records in 1954 under the stage
name Lightnin' Slim. In the mid-1950s, he signed with Excello Records,
collaborating frequently with his brother-in-law Slim Harpo and harmonica player
