Kimiko Itoh (伊藤 君子) was born on 11 July 1946 in Kagawa Prefecture on the island
of Shikoku, Japan, and trained in oil painting at Musashino Art University
before studying jazz vocal technique under Yasushi Sawada. Her professional
debut came in 1982 with the album Birdland, and she signed with EPIC/Sony
Records in 1986, winning a Japanese jazz vocal prize that same year. In 1987 she
released For Lovers Only, followed in 1989 by Follow Me, which reached number 16
on the Radio & Records Contemporary Jazz charts; the title track "Follow Me"
