Josh Graves was an American bluegrass musician and resonator guitar player born
as Burkett Howard Graves on September 27, 1927, in Tellico Plains, Tennessee. He
began his professional career in 1942 as a member of the ensemble the Pierce
Brothers in Gatlinburg. Graves reached wider visibility in 1955 when he joined
the ensemble Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys at the WWVA
Jamboree. Originally a bass player, he switched to the resonator guitar and
developed a picking style based on the three-finger banjo technique of Earl
