Johnny Varro

Johnny Varro is an American pianist known for his work in the swing tradition. He began studying piano at age ten and was introduced to jazz through the Commodore Music Shop in New York City. His first professional engagement was touring with Bobby Hackett’s quartet. In 1957, Eddie Condon hired him as an intermission pianist, leading to collaborations with artists such as Buck Clayton and Wild Bill Davison. Varro moved to Miami Beach in 1965, working on the Jackie Gleason Show and touring with the Dukes of Dixieland. In 1979, he relocated to Los Angeles, where he founded the Swin...
