Johnny Russell was an American country singer and songwriter born on January 23,
1940, in Sunflower, Mississippi. He moved to Fresno, California, in his youth
and began performing in local nightclubs before pursuing a professional career
in Nashville. Russell is best known for writing the classic track “Act
Naturally”, which became a Number 1 hit for Buck Owens in 1963 and was later
