John Surman is a British jazz saxophonist and clarinettist who had stints with
bands led by pianists Mike Westbrook and Peter Lemer, bassist Graham Collier and
bluesman Alexis Korner before establishing The Trio with bassist Barre Phillips
and drummer Stu Martin. Later, he formed S.O.S. with alto sax player Mike
Osborne and tenor sax player Alan Skidmore and made recordings with artists
including Michael Gibbs, John McLaughlin and Ronnie Scott.
