John Knowles
John Knowles, born in 1942, is an American acoustic guitarist. He first learned
accordion and ukulele before transitioning to guitar in high school and while
earning a physics degree at Texas Christian University. He was recognized by
Chet Atkins, who awarded him the title Certified Guitar Player. Knowles released
Sittin' Back Pickin in 1979, followed by Heart Songs in 2019, a collaboration
with Tommy Emmanuel. His work earned him a National Thumb Picker's Hall of Fame
induction in 2004, a Grammy Award, and two Emmy Award nominations.
