João de Oliveira e Costa Braga, known as João Braga, was born on April 15, 1945,
in Lisbon, Portugal. He began singing in local Fado venues at age 18 and
released four EPs and his debut album A Minha Cor in 1967, marking the start of
his professional career. In 1969, he signed with Philips Records under the
production of Luís Villas-Boas.
Braga continued to release albums throughout the decades, including Terra de
fados (1990) and O Melhor Dos Melhores (1994). He has been recognized with
several awards, including the Medalha de Mérito Cultural do Município de Lisboa
in 1990.
