Born Gerardo Rivera Rodríguez on July 31, 1973, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Jerry
Rivera grew up in a musical family and cut his first demo as a teenager, leading
to his debut album Empezando a Vivir in 1989 and follow-up Abriendo Puertas in
1990, which yielded early radio singles like “Dime” and “Más Que Tú.” He vaulted
to stardom with Cuenta Conmigo in 1992—home to “Amores Como el Nuestro,” “Casi
un Hechizo,” and the title track—which topped the tropical market and became one
