Jerry Garcia Band
Jerry Garcia Band was an American rock band from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Formed in 1975 by the musician Jerry Garcia, the group originally included the
bassist John Kahn. The ensemble’s musical style was influenced by genres
including blues, folk and jazz. The keyboardist Melvin Seals joined the band in
1981 and subsequently assumed leadership of the successor group JGB following
the death of Kahn in 1996. During Garcia's lifetime, the ensemble released its
only studio album, Cats Under the Stars (1978), and the live recording Jerry
