In 1992, rather than accept a job writing for the TV series Seinfeld, James Murphy (born in New Jersey in 1970) persevered with music, working as a sound engineer for the American post-punk band Six Finger Satellite. He became DJ Death from Above, a nickname that would have a lasting influence on his career.
