James Webre Blackwood, born on August 4, 1919, in Choctaw County, Mississippi,
was an American gospel singer. He started singing at a young age with his
brother Doyle at local church gatherings and radio stations like WTJS in
Jackson, Tennessee. In 1934, Blackwood formed the Blackwood Brothers with his
brothers Roy and Doyle, and nephew R.W., debuting on WHEF in Kosciusko,
Mississippi. The group won Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts Show in 1954 and 1956.
